We had a delightful, whirlwind morning with our old friend Ecco, her husband, and their cute son. We met them for coffee and they insisted on piling us in their car to take us to see some sights.
First, Lombard Street, one of the crookedest streets around (above). It’s a block long, is steep, and has eight narrow, abrupt turns.
Afterwards, we headed to Coit Tower, to get a beautiful view of the city (below).
There are some grand murals inside that reminded me of Diego Rivera’s work. They were painted by several different artists in 1934 and portray life in California during the Depression. These artists were employed by the Public Works of Art Project, which came before the Works Progress Administration and was created to get people jobs during this time.
I read that there were wild parrots on Telegraph Hill, where Coit Tower rests. I kept my eyes open, but didn’t get to see any of them.
We did see sea lions, however, so that makes up for it.
A quick stop to Pier 39 on the edge of Fisherman's Wharf was crucial. What a cool thing- so many sea lions enjoying the day on the docks.
It was a stunning start to a day.
San Fran looks so bright, warm, and beautiful! I'm glad you all are having such a great time. I think of you so often!
