We took a breath-taking hike the last day we were in the Grand Canyon. We saw these ancient Native American drawings (above) known as pictographs, as we ventured into the canyon on the South Kaibab Trail – seeking the aptly named Ooh Aah Point.

Some people (including a serious, questioning kid we talked to for a little bit) go down to the bottom of the canyon and back in one day.

We did not. Instead, we hiked just a tiny bit into the canyon while I chatted about coming back to camp at the bottom someday.

Oh, how I love to make plans.

We stopped at so many spots worthy of the name, I can’t remember which photo above is at the actual Ooh Aah Point.

One rather unexpected and wonderful thing was that we ran into our friends Ben and Megan who live in D.C.

We had found out that they were in Flagstaff on vacation while we were in the Canyon, but didn’t know that they were coming our way. We just happened to pass by them on our way to the shuttle. That place is huge and the timing had to be just right for that to happen.

Crazy! Awesome!

We stopped for a moment by this great stone cat and made plans to have lunch in Flagstaff the next day.

It’s amazing how things work out sometimes.
