Early in the morning during our visit to the Black Hills, we visited Mt. Rushmore. We accidentally got there before they opened and we were let in for free, without having to pay for parking! What a deal. It was so nice, not many people were there and the light was lovely.
Sammy enjoyed the field trip.
Just think- George Washington’s nose is twenty feet tall!
Almost 400 workers spent 14 years carving sculptor Gutzon Borglum’s vision, using dynamite and careful processes with small tools. It was completed in 1941, after Borglum’s death. It is pretty magnificent.
