Last night I had the chance to go with a friend to see a powerful show put on as part of the Chicago Circus Fest. Amazing! The woman who introduced the two performances said that we would need a baggie to put our brains in afterwards. She was right. Our minds were blown.

The first performance was by a woman from Finland, Ilona Jantti. Her company is Ilmatila and her performance was Muualla/Elsewhere. She interacted beautifully and endearingly through dance and aerial performance with animated images on a screen behind her. Here's a snippet of what she does:

The second performance was out of this world. It was called Smoke and Mirrors and it was by Ricochet, a
company of two people (Cohdi Harrell and Laura Stokes) based in New Mexico. Chicago Circus Fest's description of Ricochet mentions "poetic acrobatics" and that's exactly what we saw last night.
Here's a bit of that:

I'm so glad I got to see these two performances!

  1. I went to this festival, too! But I saw a mime performance artist called Honeybuns. It was an amazing, moving show. Wish I had seen more of the festival! I love your blog.
